Katutubo TERNO - Maroon
Introducing our latest "KATUTUBO" collection of TERNO using native handwoven fabric from the Ilocos Region called Binakul.
Binakul (also known as binakel, binakael, or binakol - meaning “twill” in Ilocano) is a textile pattern handwoven on a small scale in Ilocos and Abra. It is a variation of the abel Iloko.
Binakul weaving is considered a gradually diminishing industry due to the nonavailability of local cotton and its price disadvantage compared to factory-woven fabrics. Binakul can be easily recognized by its uniform, interlocked geometric patterns that result in psychedelic optical art designs, which are said to represent the waves of the sea and, among indigenous peoples of the Cordilleras, protection against malevolent spirits.
TERNO by TCG is proud to use this native fabric for its uniqeness, beauty, elegance and the heritage that comes with it. TERNO aims to bring back the love for our own Filipino clothing and share this beautiful native fabric handwoven by our artisans to the world with pride, elegance and purpose.
